7/27/2023 0 Comments Cubemen gameplay![]() ![]() From gameplay to design, the Wii U touchscreen provides an easy way to interact with the game. Steam and iOS users have already generated several thousand levels, which will be ready to go when the Wii U version launches. Custom levels can be shared privately or publicly, and Cubemen 2 is the first game that will allow both cross-platform multiplayer as well as cross-platform sharing of level designs. Seeing the tiny voxel characters walking around and blowing stuff up reminded me of the classic game Lemmings.Ĭubemen 2 features a full level editor, as well as a theme editor, which allows you to skin the cubes to give them some character. The modes are fully customizable, and each mode requires different types of strategy. Up to six players can play online, or AI can take over the teams. The game features a number of modes, including basic tower defense-style play, capture the flag, and a mode where you try to capture the most territory. The basic gameplay involves choosing which units to send out where and what actions they should take to attack or defend against other teams. There are a huge numbers of options and modes. Cubemen 2 is a bit of a sandbox, so I imagine you’ll get out what you put into it. Cubemen 2 is a real-time strategy game that keeps the presentation simple, but provides nearly endless complexity of gameplay. If you have access to a computer (most ideal) or an iPad though, those releases will probably be more enjoyable. The advent of Minecraft set off a renaissance of cube-based games. Don’t get me wrong this developer definitely deserves your money, and the Wii U version is definitely playable and enjoyable. Cubemen 2 Review – ConclusionĬubemen 2 is definitely worth your time, but I’m just not sure the Wii U version is the one you should be getting. ![]() Use your own little Cubemen to defend your base from other little Cubemen that are trying to run it over. However, once I found the ideal view, I rarely moved far from it, making this issue more annoying than game breaking. Fast paced, Action packed, original 3D Tower Defense mixed with RTS Get ready for some crazy Cubemen action It’s the age old struggle between Good vs Bad, Blue vs Red, Little men vs Little men. It was hard trying to maneuver around the environments using a combination of buttons, analog sticks, and the stylus. Wii U games are at their best when they use both the gamepad AND the TV, not one or the other. For a Wii U game, this is disappointment. Enemy units come so fast, there is no reason to not look at your gamepad. While this game focuses on using the gamepad to click and deploy units, using the TV is near impossible. Yet, I played this game on the wrong device. Lots to do, a variety of environments to traverse, and plenty of units to deploy. With So Much Good, Why So Much Disappointment? It is unfortunate, however, that so few people are online playing the Wii U version, at least at the time of this review. The online modes are also great fun you can play with up to six players online in team or solo battles there’s even an option to take on a group of AI opponents. Cubes can be used to buy and upgrade units. You amass cubes by destroying enemy units. The game uses cubes as currency, since all the units are made of cubes. If you can think of the unit or an ability, it’s probably available. ![]() The depth of available units and what they can do is great, and the developers have not left players wanting. The game offers a wide variety of units to choose from and different skins for both defensive and offensive environments – these were better than I thought! In some, you are tasked with defending your base against waves and waves of enemies, while in others it is your job to destroy the enemy bases. There are both defensive and offensive goals spread across a ton of scenarios. You control a base camp from which you can build and deploy your troops. I suppose this isn’t entirely a new concept, as other tower defense titles have done this as well, however, it is perhaps the most effective use of mobile ‘towers’ that I have ever seen, and the real time strategy elements add a great twist. Ubemen 2 is definitely worth your time, but I'm just not sure the Wii U version is the one you should be getting ![]()
