7/26/2023 0 Comments Wakefy reviewThe group sets off to find Yugo's "real family," thus establishing what will pass as an excuse for a plot for most of the rest of the series. He's a knight with a demon-possessed sword which has the tendency to possess him. He's most commonly called Grovy, from his English-translated full name of Percedal of Sadlygrove. His name varies from subtitle to subtitle. A series of unfortunate events sees him teamed up with an old Enutrof (bounty hunter and "fortune" spelled backwards, because we weren't having enough fun.) named Ruel and a young Iop (named after Yop, a French dairy product) named. Years later, that child has grown up into Yugo - the world's least convincing protagonist. However, before doing so he is accosted by a Xelor (a time wizard and also Rolex spelled backwards) named Nox, who wants both the dragon and the child. The great dragon Grougaloragran (and yes, I actually remember the name by this point) entrusts a small child to a kind-hearted man. I'll try to not give any spoilers, but it may be unavoidable as some of what's good - as well as most of what pisses me off - has to do with spoilers. I will, however, split the review into three pieces, roughly following the two seasons and the standalone OVA series separately. Let me explain what I mean, in a non-formal format because my thoughts on the matter are a bit too scattershot to come up with a cohesive review. If it weren't so, SO bad at the same time. Wakfu leaves me wanting to cry, both out of joy and out of frustration. An English version is reputed to exist, but eh. It's also French, so I had to watch it with subtitles. It was described as "Avatar: The Last Airbender with Dragon Ball Z fights." Neither is really true - the show is its own thing. The game doesn't interest me in the slightest, but the TV Show surrounding it looked quite good on cursory research - excellent animation, interesting character design and a pretty grand storyline. And yes, there's a TV show called "Wakfu." It's set in the "World of Twelves" from the MMO Dofus, aka Wakfu on Steam. Does this ever give me conflicting feelings.
